Aircraft Mechanic II - Sheet Metal

Responsibilities

• Repair engines, sheet metal, and structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty.
• Provide input to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC).
• Prepare Estimated Cost of Damage preparation (ECOD) and assist in recommending changes to MWO.
• Prioritize workloads and lead teams through more complex relevant tasks.
• Inspect and maintain repairs and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
• Maintain and repair aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components.
• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition and/or operation.
• Solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturer's manuals.
• Thoroughly understand aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
• Have a broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs.
• Have basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Have a thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal breaks, and sheers.
• Receive technical guidance from supervisor or higher-level technician as needed.
• Occasionally lead teams through more complex aircraft-related tasks and may be required to make entire in-aircraft logs and records.
• Must be able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
• May require specialization in sheet-metal, electric work, avionics, or other aircraft systems-related disciplines.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' aviation experience.
• Minimum of 3 years rotary wing aviation experience.
• 3 years prior experience on an Air Force Wide-body platform (preferably KC135).
• High school diploma or equivalent, or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
• U.S. Citizen and must pass a background check and obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Knowledge of proper use of hand tools in aircraft maintenance.
• Operational knowledge of aircraft, aircraft systems, engines, and component parts.
• Ability to read and write, and interpret and comply with aircraft maintenance procedures, manuals, specifications, and directives, guides, and forms used on the job.
• Knowledge of reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, technical manuals, and using measuring instruments, gauges, tools, and test equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift and maneuver 50 pounds.
• Pass fit for work physical and/or drug test as required.
• Able to work in areas requiring awkward posturing, bending, kneeling, squatting, including working overhead.
• Able to work at heights in the hangar and on the flightline.
• If required, able to pass a DOT physical.
• If required, able to pass a respiratory physical and wear a respirator for 2-4 hours.
• Able to perform confined space activities.
