Summary
The Sheet Metal/Structures Mechanic is responsible for the service, repair, and overhaul of aircraft to ensure airworthiness. Works under minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Has intermediate knowledge of all areas of the aircraft and assigned work area.
- Repair, modify, replace, or otherwise perform routine aircraft maintenance work in specialized areas of aircraft.
- Develop repair schemes utilizing SRM or Engineering data.
- Conduct operational tests.
- Communicate effectively with other maintenance personnel at all levels by keeping co-workers and leadership apprised of work progress and difficulties as they arise.
- Complete job assignments in a timely manner.
- Read and interpret manufacturer and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, drawings, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repair, replacement, or modification.
- Responsible for accurately clocking to jobs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Repair, replace, and rebuild A/C component structures.
- Possess basic computer skills.
- Repair & modify flight control surfaces and components.
- Utilize special installation tools, such as blind rivet guns, etc.
- Utilize OEM and Engineering drawings to modify aircraft structure.
- Complete specialized tasks, such as flap peening, cold working, etc.
- Fabricate repair parts using special shop tooling, such as brakes, stretchers, etc.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two years of related commercial/military aircraft maintenance experience.
- Airframe or Airframe and Powerplant License preferred.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit; use their hands and arms; talk or hear; and focus on objects close up.
- The employee will also be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to handle and climb ladders and aircraft stairs.
