Aircraft Mechanic II

Amentum is hiring an Aircraft Mechanic II to support U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA (VFA-106).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
• Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures (e.g., wings, fuselage) and functional components (e.g., rigging, surface controls, plumbing, hydraulic units) using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
• Perform 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.
• Examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks; listen to operating engines to detect and diagnose malfunctions (e.g., sticking or burnt valves).
• Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
• Inspect jet engine turbine blades for cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks.
• Test engine operation using testing equipment (e.g., ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, JETCAL tester) to locate sources of malfunction.
• Replace or repair worn or damaged components (e.g., carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, compressor bleed valves) using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Remove engines from aircraft using hoists or forklifts; disassemble, inspect, repair, or replace defective parts; reassemble and reinstall engines.
• Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
• Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
• Service aircraft by flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
• Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft.
• Document maintenance work in records and verify satisfactory completion.
• Service engines and airframe components at line stations, making repairs short of overhaul to maintain safe operating condition.
• Specialize in repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, or engine repair as needed.
• Participate in required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual training; ensure timely documentation.
• Enforce Site, Company, and Navy policies and procedures.
• Plan, prioritize, and assign tasks to meet customer delivery dates and deadlines.

Requirements

• Shift work required; detachments are possible.
• Must obtain CDQAR and Aircraft Crew Leader Qualifications within 30 days of hire.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of Navy Aviation “A” School.
• Completion of F/A-18 E-G Initial and Career courses.
• Minimum of five (5) years of actual and recent organizational-level F/A-18 aircraft experience, including 5 years of prior F/A-18 A-G Collateral Duty Inspector/Quality Assurance Representative experience or FAA certificate with Airframe & Powerplant ratings and equivalent experience.
• Phase Coordinator experience.
• In-depth knowledge of the 4790.2 series (Program enforcement and compliance).
• Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to meet physical requirements and pass medical examinations related to daily tasks.
• Working knowledge of the Technical Directive program.
• Valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver’s License (if North Carolina resident).
• Ability to obtain T3 Secret Eligible Status and facility credentials/authorization (U.S. citizenship required).
• May require FAA licensing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
• F/A-18 Supervisor Fam C-600-3867.
• Naval Aviation Quality Assurance Admin C-555-0046.
• APU/Low Power Turn Operator certification.
• All required Support Equipment Licenses.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $39.46 per hour, plus $7.80 per hour (up to 40 hours per week) for Health & Welfare.
