About the role

This mechanic applies a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty. The role involves troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems.

Responsibilities

• Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures such as wings, fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, plumbing, and hydraulic units using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' and airlines maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine repair feasibility and methods.
• Replace or repair worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Remove engines from aircraft using a hoist or forklift truck, disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repair or replace defective engine parts.
• Reassemble and install engines in aircraft.
• Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
• Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
• Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
• Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft.
• Enter maintenance records and descriptions of work performed.
• Verify satisfactorily serviced engines and airframe components at the line station.
• Make repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
• Specialize in the repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, including engine repair.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet-metal and structural modifications and repair.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet-metal brakes, and shears.
• Ability to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
• May require specialization in sheet metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems-related disciplines.

Qualifications

• A&P License or a Military Service School Certificate of Training in Aviation Maintenance highly desirable.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Military experience is a plus.
