Aircraft Mechanic - Customs and Border Protection

About the Role

The CBP Aircraft Mechanic maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty. This includes maintaining and repairing aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.

Responsibilities

• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition or operation.
• Perform daily, flight line, and hangar maintenance on all assigned aircraft.
• Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
• Use hand tools to perform maintenance (special tools and test equipment provided by Customs).
• Occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
• Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.
• Travel periodically in support of customers’ missions.
• Follow procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
• Use Office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel) for communication and documentation.

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) License.
• Competency in repair and maintenance of airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and aircraft engines.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
• Working knowledge of military and general aviation aircraft airframe and engine logbooks.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft tools (e.g., test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, shears).
• Working knowledge of technical publications.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English, following verbal and written instructions.

Physical Requirements

• Physically able to perform aircraft mechanic duties, including moving freely about aircraft interiors and unpressurized areas.
• Stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
• Pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Occasionally work in high-noise areas requiring ear protection.

Preferred Qualifications

• Employed as a full-time aircraft mechanic within the past twelve (12) months.
• 3-5 years of full-time experience as an aircraft mechanic.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $46.13
