Aircraft Mechanic - Customs and Border Protection

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Aircraft Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and systems of moderate complexity.

Responsibilities

• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power-plant systems to diagnose malfunctions and restore equipment condition or operation, using blueprints, manufacturer manuals, and other technical documentation.
• Perform daily, flight-line, and hangar maintenance on all assigned aircraft.
• Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
• Furnish own hand tools; special tools and test equipment provided by CBP.
• Occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
• Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.
• Periodically travel in support of the customer’s mission.
• Follow base, federal, and company procedures for hazardous-waste handling and disposal.
• Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to communicate and manage workflow.

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current FAA Airframe and Power-Plant (A&P) certificate.
• Competence in repair and maintenance of airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and aircraft engines.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet-metal/structural modification and repair.
• Working knowledge of military and general-aviation aircraft airframe and engine logbooks.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft-specific tools (test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet-metal brakes, shears).
• Working knowledge of technical publications.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English; ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

• Physically able to perform aircraft-mechanic duties, including moving freely about aircraft interiors and unpressurized areas.
• Stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
• Pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional work in high-noise areas requiring adequate ear protection.

Preferred Qualifications

• Employed as a full-time aircraft mechanic within the past twelve months.
• 3–5 years of full-time aircraft-mechanic experience.

Pay

Hourly rate: $45.94
