About the role

The successful Aircraft Mechanic-Avionics performs organizational, intermediate, and limited depot-level maintenance, including inspection, operational test, repair, modification, and troubleshooting on all assigned aircraft, components, and equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to other employees as needed.

Performs testing and troubleshooting of weapons systems, complex avionics/electrical systems and subsystems, communication/navigation, electronic flight control, fuel, power generators, power distribution systems, lighting systems, flight instrument and fuel systems, temperature and pressure indicating, engine and control indications, ATFLIR, Electronic Counter Measure, and RADAR systems. Provides technical assistance and astute communication during aircrew debrief.

Reads and interprets blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications, procedures, and applicable safety manuals. Work is typically performed in a hangar, shop, or flight line environment and requires physical movements such as lifting objects up to 70 pounds, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work conditions may range from comfortable environments to exposure to inclement weather, high noise hazards, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards. May be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments.

Responsibilities

• Perform organizational, intermediate, and depot-level maintenance on aircraft and components.
• Inspect, test, repair, modify, and troubleshoot avionics and electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot weapons systems, communication/navigation systems, flight control systems, and other aircraft subsystems.
• Provide technical guidance and instruction to other employees.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical directives, and manuals.
• Assist during aircrew debriefs with technical expertise.
• Detect, treat, and prevent corrosion on aircraft.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, hydraulic systems, engines, and auxiliary systems.
• Maintain safe operating conditions for aircraft.

Requirements

• Minimum three years’ experience within the last eight years in aircraft maintenance, with the last two years in the military or with a government aviation maintenance contractor.
• Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain required qualifications, certifications, licensing, or clearance.
• Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C, or F-16 aircraft.
• High degree of expertise in aircraft systems, avionics theory, and applications.
• In-depth knowledge of maintenance manuals, publications, and special tools.
• Familiarity with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
• Thorough working knowledge of corrosion detection, prevention, and treatment.
• Working knowledge of aircraft sub-systems, maintenance parameters, and technical orders.
• Collateral Duty Inspector (in 2 T/M/S aircraft).
• Egress System Checkout, Plane Captain Qualified, Aircraft Towing Certified, or Aircraft Brake Rider Certified.

• COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness.
• NALCOMIS/OOMA Training (preferred).
• ESD Training.
• Support Equipment Operator’s License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, and Mobile Start Unit at a minimum).
• Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
• Fuel Surveillance Training (preferred).

Pay

Hiring hourly rate of pay: $54.47 (set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
