Aircraft Mechanic - Avionics - VMG

Aircraft Mechanic-Avionics performing organizational, intermediate, and limited depot-level maintenance, including inspection, operational test, repair, modification, and troubleshooting on assigned aircraft, components, and equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems and provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to other employees.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing and troubleshooting of weapons systems, complex avionics/electrical systems and subsystems, communication/navigation, electronic flight control, fuel, power generators, power distribution systems, lighting systems, flight instrument and fuel systems, temperature and pressure indicating, engine and control indications, ATFLIR, Electronic Counter Measure, and RADAR systems.
• Provide technical assistance, guidance, and communication during aircrew de-brief.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and applicable safety manuals.
• Work in a hangar/shop/flight line environment, requiring physical movements and postures associated with these activities.
• Lift objects up to 70 pounds.
• Work in diverse conditions, including inclement weather, high noise hazards, fumes, airborne particles, and potential electrical shock hazards.
• Perform off-site service on assigned detachments.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, hydraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.

Requirements

• Minimum three years’ experience.
• Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
• Qualified according to field of expertise and level of maintenance assigned.
• Ability to obtain/maintain any company/government required qualifications, certifications, licensing, or clearance.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.
• Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
• Valid state driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C, or F-16 aircraft.
• High degree of expertise in aircraft systems, avionics theory, and applications.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions, and special tools and test equipment.
• Familiarity with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
• Thorough working knowledge of corrosion detection, prevention, and treatment.
• Working knowledge of aircraft sub-systems, including maintenance parameters, systems operations, limitations, and technical orders.
• Customer-oriented approach.

Licensing, Certification Requirements

• Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent
• Hazardous Waste Communication Training
• FOD and TCP Awareness Training
• Security Clearance Awareness Training
• COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness
• NALCOMIS/OOMA Trained (preferred)
• ESD Trained
• Support Equipment Operator’s License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, and Mobile Start Unit at a minimum)
• Collateral Duty Inspector (in 2 T/M/S aircraft)
• Egress System Checkout
• Plane Captain Qualified (preferred)
• Aircraft Towing Certified (preferred)
• Aircraft Brake Rider Certified
• Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
• Fuel Surveillance Trained (preferred)

Pay

Hourly rate of pay: $54.47 (set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
