Responsibilities
- Independently conduct air compliance inspections and determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations and permits.
- Investigate complaints, documenting observations, compliance status and recommendations using DEQ software and templates.
- Document and update enforcement actions in the database within agency timeframes.
- Collect data/samples and perform Q/A on ambient air monitoring stations, as needed, in accordance with federal standards and the Division of Air Monitoring Quality Assurance Manual, regulations, and other requirements.
- Maintain complete and accurate logs of records and submit reports.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of scientific and/or manufacturing/commercial/industrial/mechanical processes and air pollution control regulations and standards.
- Skills and ability to: communicate effectively verbally and in writing, organize work, set priorities, and perform tasks independently, read and interpret technical documents and understand mechanical and industrial processes, analyze and solve problems, apply established policy, procedures, and regulations, use computers for word processing and data management, climb ladders, work at heights and maneuver in tight spaces.
About the Role
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the primary environmental permitting agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is responsible for administering laws and regulations related to air quality, water quality, water supply, renewable energy, and land protection. Through the dedication and work of over 800 employees across six regional offices and the Central Office in Richmond, DEQ issues permits, conducts monitoring and inspections, and enforces the law.
