Air Freight Director

DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) manages the flow of goods and information across a customer's global supply chain utilizing air/ocean/ground transportation, customs brokerage services, and dedicated warehousing/distribution centers. About the role

The Air Freight Director, ORD supports the execution of the airfreight strategy, provides airfreight expertise, and monitors all air freight-related activities performed at the station level to effectively manage the end-to-end airfreight process. This role ensures optimization of airfreight transaction operations in line with customer requirements to deliver cost-effective execution.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the point of contact for OPS and Service Quality related issues (e.g., customer complaints/escalations, exception management, shipment irregularities, service recovery).
• Support local process enhancements and ensure compliance with global improvement initiatives and standard procedures.
• Contribute to the country air freight product agenda and projects/initiatives.
• Support execution of the Gross Profit Improvement Program in the country.
• Communicate implications of regional and country airfreight policies/guidelines and support training with stations and gateways.
• Support business development and tactical opportunity conversion by providing operational expertise and ensuring operational customer requirements are met.
• Support development and drive implementation of new solutions/services, including sector-specific solutions.
• Support the Spot Quote Pricing strategy.
• Support and drive compliance with KPIs, with a special focus on timely responding to requests.
• Support and drive adherence to the usage of tools and sources as defined by the Pricing group.
• Drive cargo optimization in air/cartage vendors.
• Assist with airline relationship building and local rate negotiation.
• Contribute to the achievement of business growth, revenue, and profitability.
• Ensure compliance of stations and gateways with customer SOPs and global/regional airfreight policies and guidelines.
• Influence decisions/actions by providing value-added feedback into the organization/function and country management.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in freight forwarding airfreight operations (i.e., handling, documentation, clearance).
• 5+ years of leadership/management experience.
• Experience using CargoWise software preferred.
• Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office tools, intermediate level in Excel).
• Highly organized with project management expertise.
• Strong analytical skills and detail-oriented.
• People management skills.

Pay

$130,011.75 - $173,349.00+ (based on experience).
