AI Finance Operations Manager
About the Company
Tread is an AI-native vertical SaaS platform transforming construction materials logistics—a massive, essential industry that moves the aggregate, asphalt, and concrete behind every road, bridge, and building. As of July 2026, Tread has crossed $2Bn in monthly delivered load value on the platform, with ~$XM+ ARR and rapid growth. The AI-powered platform serves Haulers, Producers, and Contractors by optimizing truck routing, loaded-mile delivery, and project planning while delivering exceptional customer service through personalized AI agents. Backed by Mucker Capital, Tread is scaling from $XM to $XXM+ ARR and building a team to drive this growth.
About the Role
Tread has built a powerful company brain to power decision-making and context-setting, helping drive the company to $XM in ARR. This role extends existing AI-powered workflows to scale revenue efficiently without a traditional Finance function. As a dedicated AI-pilled finance professional, you will own the entire revenue dollar journey—from forecasting and modeling to biz-ops and business development. This role is ideal for someone from an investment banking, growth equity, or private equity background who wants to transition from advising to operating, sitting alongside founders to make critical decisions.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Finance & FP&A
- Build and maintain the company's operating model, budget, and rolling forecast, making it the source of truth for leadership.
- Own key metrics for a vertical SaaS + usage business: ARR, net revenue retention, CAC, payback, gross margin, magic number, and burn multiple.
- Identify where unit economics break and which levers matter most.
- Turn ambiguous questions (e.g., pricing changes, new segments, hiring plans, go/no-go on big deals) into clear, quantified recommendations.
- Fundraising & Investor / Board
- Build board decks, data rooms, and reporting packages, owning and defending the numbers investors see.
- Partner with the CEO to run the next fundraise, including modeling, narrative, diligence, and financial process management.
- Own cash-flow forecasting, runway, and scenario planning to ensure no surprises in cash position.
- Business & Revenue Operations
- Connect the quote-to-cash workflow (deal to invoice to collections) to ensure ARR is live, reconciled, and trustworthy.
- Run the rhythms that keep a scaling company aligned: KPI dashboards, weekly business reviews, and agreed-upon metrics definitions.
- Partner with GTM on comp plans and pipeline math, and with product/ops on cost and margin delivery.
- AI-Native Systems & Automation
- Design the finance and ops stack to run lean, using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, automation layers) to handle reconciliations, variance narratives, data cleanup, reporting, and busywork.
- Own the tooling (billing, ERP/accounting, CRM integrations, dashboards) and wire them together for seamless data flow.
- Establish how a modern, AI-first finance and ops function operates at Tread and write the playbook for it.
Requirements
- 2–5 years in investment banking, growth equity, private equity, or a top-tier strategic finance / corporate development role.
- Elite financial modeling and analytical skills—ability to build a three-statement model and operating model from scratch and defend every assumption.
- Commercial instinct combined with financial rigor—you want to understand why the business wins.
- AI-native mindset: you already use AI tools to work faster and want to build a finance function around them.
- Extreme ownership and comfort with ambiguity—you’ll build the org chart and processes from the ground up.
- Clear, executive-level communicator who can engage with founders, board members, and customers seamlessly.
- No task is beneath you; you’d rather ship an answer than hand off a recommendation.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to SaaS or usage-based business models and their metrics.
- Accounting fluency (close, revenue recognition) or willingness to learn quickly.
- Light technical skills: SQL, spreadsheets-as-code, or hands-on experience with automation tools (Zapier, Make, n8n).
- Interest in logistics, construction tech, or hard-industry software.
Why This Role Is Unique
- You own the entire finance function: the model, board materials, cash, and systems—everything a banker or investor typically sees from the outside.
- Direct line to the CEO and cap table, sitting in the room where decisions are made from day one.
- A launchpad for growth: this role can evolve into Head of Finance, VP Finance, or Head of BizOps as Tread scales.
- Build an AI-native finance function from scratch, rather than retrofitting AI into existing processes.
- Work with a real company (Series A, real revenue, enterprise customers) in a massive, under-digitized market.
Success in the First 12 Months
- Leadership runs the business off your operating model, and the board trusts your numbers.
- Monthly close is fast, clean, and largely automated.
- Cash and runway are never a surprise.
- Unit economics are defined, instrumented, and understood across the team, with key levers identified.
- The next fundraise has a finance engine room that accelerates diligence.
- The finance & ops stack runs lean and AI-native, doing the work of a much larger team.
Benefits
- Competitive salary plus meaningful early-stage equity—this is a foundational hire, and the equity reflects that.
- Full health coverage.
- Flexible remote/hybrid setup.
Pay
Compensation range: $140K - $160K.
