AI Engineer

About the role

The Applied AI Engineer will play a crucial role in integrating AI into Homeward's products and internal workflows. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining AI-powered features, building and enhancing tooling, implementing observability, and tackling complex problems.

Qualifications

• 4-6 years of professional back-end development experience in a fast-paced environment
• Hands-on experience building or operating AI/ML systems in production
• Proficiency with LLM APIs, prompt design, and context management
• Strong expertise in Python and back-end frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI
• Solid understanding of web development best practices including REST APIs, asynchronous processing, and data management
• Good judgment on trade-offs related to reliability, latency, cost, and maintainability
• Exceptional ownership and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with version control and CI/CD pipelines
• Curiosity and adaptability in navigating the evolving AI landscape

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain AI-powered features within Homeward’s products, including integrations with LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, and automation tools
• Build and enhance shared tooling and components to streamline AI integration across teams
• Implement observability, monitoring, evaluation, and prompt management to ensure AI features are reliable and performant
• Tackle complex, ambiguous problems by leveraging LLMs and ML, translating them into practical business solutions
• Prototype solutions rapidly, collaborating with peers and senior engineers to refine and deploy them
• Establish and promote best practices for building with AI, making adoption straightforward for teams
• Evaluate new AI models, tools, and approaches, providing recommendations and facilitating adoption
• Utilize AI coding assistants like Claude and Copilot to enhance productivity and code quality
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews to maintain high standards
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to ensure solutions are useful, well-documented, and easy to implement
