Agricultural Tech II Research
About This Role
Sorghum and pearl millet breeding program is one of the major research activities. The program involves continuous field work from April to November and greenhouse work during the off-season months. Key responsibilities include:
- Development of parental lines and hybrids
- Evaluation at multi-locations
- Field preparation, fertilizer and herbicide application
- Planting, irrigating breeding field nurseries
- Field crossing, assist selection, data collection, compilation
- Plot combine and single plant harvesting
- Drying, threshing, cleaning, seed treatment with chemicals
- Short-term and long-term seed storage, shipping seeds to winter nursery

Worksite Description
This position is On-site. All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Minimum Qualifications: One year of relevant experience
- Preferred Qualifications: BS degree preferred
- Communication skills in English, both oral and written
- Certified or capable of becoming certified to apply restricted-use pesticides
- Safe and proper use of agricultural chemicals
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to agricultural equipment
- Ability to read and follow planting plans and designs
- Setup, calibration, and operation of precision agricultural equipment
- Use of desktop and laptop computers including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
