About the role
Supports the Peanut Variety and Quality Evaluation (PVQE) program at the center under the leadership of the peanut extension specialist.
Responsibilities
- Carry out experimental protocols involving land preparation, planting, experimental plot maintenance, harvesting, post-harvest processing, sample processing, data collection and recording for on-center research sites and off-center sites.
- Off-center sites include locations in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina as components of a multi-state project.
- Organization and upkeep of facilities and equipment assigned to the PVQE program.
- Give guidance to part-time employees and graduate students working within the program.
Required Qualifications
- Must have or make progress towards obtaining within one year of employment Category 10 pesticide applicators license.
- Must have or make progress towards obtaining within one year of employment commercial driver's license with Class A endorsement.
- Must have or make progress towards obtaining within one year of employment DOT medical certification.
- Experience operating mechanical equipment such as tractors, planters, sprayer and cultivation equipment, harvest combines, power and hand tools, and other field crop research equipment.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on field and research equipment.
- Experience providing support for research projects and the ability to communicate and plan with the project leader and cooperating staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with agronomic field research and pesticide application techniques is preferred.
- Experience with data entry and Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
