Agricultural Program Assistant - Extra-Help

About the role

The Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures is seeking Extra-Help Agricultural Program Assistants to support the Pest Detection Trapping Program. These positions involve placing and servicing insect traps to collect data and detect invasive pests.

Responsibilities

• Place and service insect traps
• Collect and analyze data related to pest detection
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Operate vehicles safely in all weather conditions
• Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and the public

Requirements

• Possession of a valid California driver's license
• Agricultural or entomology experience and/or relevant coursework
• A keen sense of safety awareness
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent attention to detail and strong customer service skills
• Basic Microsoft Office, data entry, and computer skills

Qualifications

• Experience in agricultural or entomological fields
• Knowledge of methods of planting, growing, treating, and harvesting agricultural crops
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment and vehicles associated with cultivation
• Effective communication skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
