Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage delivery for concurrent digital product initiatives, keeping individual projects on track while coordinating cross-project dependencies, timelines, budgets, priorities, sequencing, and tradeoffs across the broader product portfolio
- Build, maintain, and regularly update project plans, timelines, milestones, dependency maps, and delivery forecasts to ensure work remains organized, visible, and achievable
- Track scope, schedule, budget, capacity, risks, milestones, and dependencies; proactively identify cross-project impacts and escalate issues with clear recommendations
- Coverage of cross-functional stakeholders to maintain alignment, clarify commitments, and support timely delivery
- Oversee coordination with external vendors supporting product initiatives, ensuring deliverables, timelines, scope, and budget commitments are met
- Partner with product managers, business analysts, and the development team to align release planning and sprint execution with portfolio priorities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, Editorial, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success, to manage shared dependencies and delivery commitments
- Prepare clear status reporting, escalation recommendations, decision logs, and delivery updates for leadership, highlighting project and portfolio-level risks and tradeoffs
- Support delivery predictability by identifying risks early, recommending mitigation options, and ensuring decisions and commitments are documented
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent communication, organization, and risk management skills
- Strong working knowledge of Agile and hybrid Agile/Waterfall delivery environments
- Proven ability to manage delivery, sequencing, and tradeoffs without direct people management authority
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple concurrent initiatives with shared dependencies and competing priorities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate delivery risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively with Product, Development, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Experience in preparing clear status reports, decision logs, delivery metrics, and other project documentation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to bring structure, clarity, and accountability to complex work
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or the equivalent in additional experience
- 5+ years of experience managing complex software or digital product initiatives, including multiple concurrent projects with shared dependencies
- Demonstrated experience operating at a program or portfolio-delivery level, even if not formally titled as a Program Manager
- Formal project or program management certification, such as PMP or Agile PMP, preferred; demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-initiative delivery is more important
