Afterschool Art Instructor – P.S. 150Q (Part-Time)

Reporting directly to the Program Director and Assistant Director, the Art Activity Specialist will work with the Group Leader to ensure the overall care and safety of students in grades K-5. This role involves developing and teaching age-appropriate art lesson plans, collaborating with staff, and supporting program events and showcases.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a group of K-5th grade children alongside the Group Leader, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with the program theme, submitting them on time.
• Develop presentations and visuals for participants.
• Teach at least two art classes per day.
• Conduct Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activities as required by funders.
• Engage participants, lead by example, and prepare materials in advance for student understanding.
• Assist with planning and preparation of special events and projects.
• Support the creation of a parent showcase at the end of each of the three program cycles.
• Collaborate with other Activity Specialists and Group Leaders to ensure a cohesive parent showcase.
• Attend regular meetings with supervisors and staff to share best practices and address challenges.
• Participate in essential workshops and mandated training.
• Transport program materials between the office and program spaces, including navigating stairs daily.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the program space, including wiping tables and sweeping floors as needed.
• Arrive on time daily in uniform, ready to engage with participants.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must be available Monday – Friday, 2:00 PM – 5:45 PM (limited flexibility to accommodate school schedules).
• Must be an expert in the field or a college/graduate student specializing in art or a related discipline.
• Experience working with children in a school environment is preferred.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and teaching skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to the position through the end of the school year in June (reapplication for summer camp is optional).

Pay

$21.00 – $25.00/hour (Non-Exempt)

Schedule

• Monday – Friday, 2:00 PM – 5:45 PM.
• Up to 3 hours of mandatory weekly trainings.
• 13 pre-selected holidays (8:00 AM – 6:00 PM).
