About the role
As a team leader for the After-School Program, the Group Leader/Counselor provides after-school day care educational and recreational experiences for children and guides and directs activities.
Responsibilities
- Designs, plans, implements, and leads a wide range of educational and recreational activities for small groups of children and for the entire After-School Program
- Manages children's activities, issues instruction, provides direction, monitors activities, and provides guidance
- Works collaboratively with other staff to establish and maintain positive atmosphere for Program participants
- Assists the Site Coordinator in the maintenance of participant attendance record
- Completes accident reports, incident reports, and evaluations; submits reports and evaluations to the Site Coordinator in a timely manner
- Assists in conducting inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment
- Makes regular contacts with public school employees, other agencies, parents, staff, supervision, other instructors, and children, where most contacts involve an exchange of information, and instruction
- Models and implements philosophy of department
- Performs similar or related work as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Degree or equivalent PLUS one to three years of demonstrated experience leading, guiding, and planning children's educational and recreational activities; OR any equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must have First Aid and CPR certifications or the ability to acquire certifications within three months of hire
- Must be able to successfully pass CORI and SORI screens and SAFIS fingerprinting
- Continued employment is contingent upon completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Safety, and other trainings as required by the local town or state
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Experience in creating educational and recreational curricula
- Knowledgeable about child development, motivational, and child psychology techniques
