After School Group Leader

About the role

As a team leader for the After-School Program, the Group Leader/Counselor provides after-school day care educational and recreational experiences for children and guides and directs activities.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, plans, implements, and leads a wide range of educational and recreational activities for small groups of children and for the entire After-School Program
  • Manages children's activities, issues instruction, provides direction, monitors activities, and provides guidance
  • Works collaboratively with other staff to establish and maintain positive atmosphere for Program participants
  • Assists the Site Coordinator in the maintenance of participant attendance record
  • Completes accident reports, incident reports, and evaluations; submits reports and evaluations to the Site Coordinator in a timely manner
  • Assists in conducting inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment
  • Makes regular contacts with public school employees, other agencies, parents, staff, supervision, other instructors, and children, where most contacts involve an exchange of information, and instruction
  • Models and implements philosophy of department
  • Performs similar or related work as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Degree or equivalent PLUS one to three years of demonstrated experience leading, guiding, and planning children's educational and recreational activities; OR any equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certifications or the ability to acquire certifications within three months of hire
  • Must be able to successfully pass CORI and SORI screens and SAFIS fingerprinting
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Safety, and other trainings as required by the local town or state

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Experience in creating educational and recreational curricula
  • Knowledgeable about child development, motivational, and child psychology techniques
