After School Group Leader

About the role

Join a fun team and do meaningful work as a part-time youth mentor at the Boys & Girls Club. This position runs from August through the end of the school year, with potential summer opportunities at one of our summer camps. You’ll help implement educational, enrichment, and recreational activities between 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Responsibilities

• Prepare youth for success by:
  • Creating an environment that promotes Youth Development Outcomes through age-appropriate activities.
  • Orienting new members to Club expectations (Be Safe, Be Kind, and Take Care).
  • Providing guidance, role modeling, and constructive feedback to build members’ skills.
  • Using safety and licensing best practices to ensure proper conduct and member safety.
  • Tracking attendance by name, face, and written records for all assigned members.
  • Overseeing cleaning, organizing, and maintaining program spaces.
• Program development, implementation, and supervision:
  • Implement and administer programs, services, and activities for members.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure safety, quality, and a well-maintained environment.
  • Ensure program areas are safe, well-ventilated, and well-lit, with equipment in good working condition.
  • Evaluate programs continually, tracking outcome metrics and addressing member needs, including gender and cultural diversity.
  • Document issues via injury/incident reports and communicate with licensing agencies (e.g., DCYF) as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training days, and special events.
  • Facilitate open, professional communication with families, staff, and members.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be 18 years or older with a minimum of 600 hours working in a school-age program.
• At least 3 credits in child development, education, recreation, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Employees 19+ may be assigned to the senior program.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate youth, manage behavior, and communicate with parents/guardians.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs and supervise members in a safe environment.
• Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications to meet Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.
• Occasional travel for meetings/trainings may be required.
• May be asked to drive a Club van/short bus (21+ years of age only) with a safe driving record.
• Must pass FBI fingerprint background check, State of NH criminal records check, and FirstAdvantage screening. Note: Disqualifying findings may prohibit employment.
• Zero-tolerance policy for child abuse; violations will result in termination and cooperation with law enforcement.
