About the Role

The Group Leader at 990 Bronx House supervises and engages a group of participants in after-school activities. This role involves planning, organizing, and leading educational and recreational activities that promote the social, emotional, and intellectual development of participants while ensuring a safe and positive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage a group of participants during after-school activities, ensuring safety and well-being at all times.
  • Monitor participant behavior and enforce program rules and expectations.
  • Develop and lead age-appropriate educational and recreational activities, adapting them to meet the needs and interests of the group.
  • Encourage participant participation and engagement in all activities.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and positive atmosphere where participants feel valued and respected.
  • Promote positive social interactions and teamwork among participants.
  • Communicate effectively with participants and colleagues, collaborating with other staff to ensure program consistency.
  • Implement effective group management strategies to maintain order and address behavioral issues promptly.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, maintaining accurate attendance records and reporting incidents or accidents.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and integrity while mentoring participants.
  • Support participants' social and emotional development and encourage them to explore new activities and skills.
  • Manage and care for program materials and supplies, assisting in setting up and cleaning activity spaces.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and stay informed about best practices in youth development and afterschool programming.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); completion of at least 30 college credits preferred.
  • Experience working with school-aged youth in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Strong leadership and group management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan and lead engaging activities.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work during after-school hours, typically between 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM.
  • Ability to supervise and engage in physical activities with participants.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours for special events.

Pay

$20.00 per hour.
