After School Group Leader
About the Role
Are you motivated to make a difference in the lives of children? Do you want to help create fantastic memories for local children? Join our team at the Boys & Girls Club in Andover, NH, where you’ll lead recreational activities, arts and crafts, water games, and interact with members. This position is available from August through the end of the school year, with the possibility of summer camp employment. We’re looking for two individuals aged 18+ with youth development experience to help implement educational, enrichment, and recreational activities. Work alongside a fun team dedicated to helping children succeed and grow into caring, responsible citizens.
Responsibilities
- Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that promotes Youth Development Outcomes through age-appropriate activities aligned with program expectations.
- Orient new members to the Club’s daily schedule and expectations (Be Safe, Be Kind, and Take Care).
- Provide guidance, role modeling, and constructive feedback to members to support their development and skill-building.
- Demonstrate leadership by adhering to safety and licensing best practices to ensure member safety.
- Maintain accurate attendance records by name, face, and written logs for assigned groups.
- Oversee and assist in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining program spaces.
- Program Development, Implementation, and Supervision
- Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for members.
- Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure Club and child safety, quality, and appearance.
- Maintain safe, well-ventilated, and well-lit program areas with equipment in good working condition.
- Evaluate Club programs continually, tracking outcome metrics to ensure they meet member needs and address gender and cultural diversity.
- Document daily issues or problems using injury/incident reports.
- Communicate with child care licensing and DCYF as required.
- Participate in staff meetings and special programs/events, such as all-staff training days.
- Facilitate open and professional communication with families, staff, and members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a minimum of 600 hours working in a school-age program.
- Documentation of at least 3 credits in child development, education, recreation, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Knowledge of youth development.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Strong communication skills with parents/guardians.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications to meet Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.
- Occasional travel for meetings/training may be required.
- May be asked to drive a Club van/short bus (21+ years of age only). Must possess a safe driving record and submit it to the Operations Director or HR.
Additional Expectations
- All candidates offered a position must submit to an FBI fingerprint background check and a background check through the State of NH Criminal Records Dept. and FirstAdvantage.
- The State of NH Childcare Licensing Bureau may prohibit employment if disqualifying findings are present on your criminal record. The Club reserves the right to determine employment status regardless of state approval.
- Zero-tolerance policy for child abuse; any mistreatment will result in disciplinary action, up to termination and cooperation with law enforcement.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire provides early learning, out-of-school time programs, summer day camps, and basketball leagues to 1,200 youth weekly.
