The Social Sciences Department at Malcolm X College seeks adjunct instructors passionate about teaching and learning, committed to the college's mission of fostering personal and professional achievement through accessible liberal arts and health-focused education.
Responsibilities
- Create courses aligned with learning outcomes and encourage active student participation.
- Foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Employ various assessments to evaluate student progress and ensure alignment with learning objectives.
- Conduct weekly one-hour student conferences for each course section taught.
- Collaborate with colleagues and support students in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals.
- Present effective, evidence-based instruction based on approved course syllabi.
- Accurately assess and grade students based on legitimate criteria.
- Maintain and submit accurate student attendance and grade records.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree or higher in African American Studies or a related field.
- Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similar systems, preferred.
- Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification, strongly preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of staff and students.
- Experience working with a diverse, multilingual student population, and a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.

Pay
$58,000 - $68,000 annually, depending on the collective bargaining agreement and the applicant's qualifications.
