About the role

The Quality Engineer III provides technical support to production operations and helps establish the quality system and production inspection activities on assigned projects. The position requires knowledge of relevant technologies, operates unassisted on routine tasks within a deployed multi‑functional team, and ensures the quality system meets stakeholder requirements—including technical compliance, adherence to production processes and standards, and business case goals (quality, delivery, cost). The role supports the production process with technical knowledge for tooling, part fabrication, assembly, and delivery, and implements state‑of‑the‑art processing technology for materials and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Works under occasional supervision from senior engineers and program leadership in a team environment.
  • Subject matter expert for manufacturing of composite components and/or metallic major assemblies, ensuring parts, sub‑assemblies, and tools meet industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Develops inspection processes and methodologies, provides guidance to less‑experienced team members, and deploys First Part Qualification (FPQ) and First Article Inspection (FAI) plans.
  • Implements inspection tooling and equipment, validates production planning, and ensures appropriate inspection points from concept through production.
  • Validates tooling functionality and part conformity, and ensures production part quality in a timely manner to support customer delivery schedules.
  • Identifies and coordinates introduction of new technology in line with program/value‑stream requirements.
  • Adheres to applicable business and quality processes and procedures such as FAA, DoD, Export Control, ITAR, Nadcap, AS9100, and customer contractual requirements.
  • Applies Lean/Six Sigma tools to predict and improve process yield.
  • Supports deployment of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools to evaluate customer designs and process concepts and assists in manufacturing process down‑selection.
  • Uses practical problem‑solving techniques (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa diagrams, Pareto analysis) to determine failure origins, impact, and to implement containment and countermeasure actions.
  • Establishes Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) plans and associated metrics (product safety, quality, delivery, recurring and non‑recurring costs).
  • Acts as primary quality representative for customers and supplier technical topics and reviews as required.
  • Maintains positive team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as peers.
  • Performs other related duties as required due to changes in business processes or customer requirements.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card) per ITAR; no visa sponsorship available.
  • Bachelor’s degree (STEM preferred) with 6+ years related experience, or associate’s degree with 8+ years aerospace experience, or 10+ years in aerospace Quality Assurance or an equivalent technical role.
  • 100 % onsite position; shift is Monday – Thursday (4 × 10 h) with occasional support beyond the standard shift.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes of large to medium composite and/or metallic major structures.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and present complex technical information to a wide audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self‑motivated; able to proactively recognize and prioritize business needs with minimal guidance.
  • CAD experience (CATIA or NX) a plus.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, blueprint reading, GD&T, model definition, tolerance analysis, and engineering bill of materials.
  • Working knowledge of process/product configuration control and change management.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, great attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills.
  • Active security clearance highly preferred; candidates without an active clearance may be considered if eligible to obtain and maintain one.
  • Physical demands: frequent sitting at a workstation, occasional walking/standing, use of stairs, ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lb, and ability to reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed.
