Aerospace Certification Engineer
Responsibilities
- Lead Part 25 and Part 23 STC programs for the installation of airborne equipment on aircraft, ensuring projects meet technical and regulatory requirements.
- Initiate and manage STC programs with the FAA or ODA, coordinating closely with operators and other stakeholders throughout the certification lifecycle.
- Prepare certification documents, including certification plans, compliance checklists, safety assessments, and conformity plans, in alignment with applicable regulations and standards.
- Support certification compliance activities such as conformity inspections and FAA‑witnessed ground functional and electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing.
- Ensure adherence to established engineering and certification processes while actively promoting continuous improvement in methods and documentation.
- Coordinate and support parts and installation conformity inspections to verify compliance with approved design data.
- Maintain detailed project schedules, track milestones, and communicate progress, risks, and issues effectively to relevant stakeholders.
- Provide practical engineering solutions based on thorough research, analysis, and interpretation of technical data and regulatory requirements.
- Generate product design and certification documentation in accordance with DO‑178, DO‑254, DO‑160, and other applicable airworthiness standards.
- Support activities related to real‑time aircraft data systems that enhance operational efficiency, safety, and performance.
- Collaborate effectively in a team‑oriented environment while taking initiative to propose ideas and adapt to changing priorities with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
- Experience with FAA certification planning, including development of certification plans and compliance strategies.
- Prior experience in program management, including scheduling, resource coordination, and stakeholder communication.
- Experience with compliance activities such as conformity inspections, testing, and documentation control.
- Exposure to working with an Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) for certification programs.
- Familiarity with testing and inspection processes related to avionics systems and airborne equipment installations.
- Knowledge of Supplemental Type Certification (STC) processes and best practices for avionics modifications.
- Experience generating documentation and supporting compliance to DO‑178, DO‑254, DO‑160, and related airworthiness standards.
- Understanding of real‑time aircraft data systems and how they support operational efficiency, safety, and performance.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and technical data.
- Comfort working in a dynamic environment where priorities may shift based on program and regulatory demands.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role with flexibility to work remotely up to 1–2 days per week when necessary. The engineer works in a professional aviation and engineering environment that involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including design, certification, testing, and installation personnel. The role includes interaction with FAA, ODA representatives, and other regulatory stakeholders, as well as coordination with aircraft operators and installation facilities. Work may involve time in office settings for design and documentation, as well as time in hangars or on the aircraft for inspections, testing, and installation support. Standard business hours apply, with occasional schedule adjustments to support critical milestones, test events, or on‑site activities.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miami, FL.
