About the Role
The EMT provides direct patient care under the direction of an RN or LPN and assists the nursing team in delivering safe and effective care within the scope of their practice. This position is part of a team-based approach, with team members trained to meet the highest level of function per State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines.
The EMT is trained and assigned to coordinate care for patients, support patients/families/caregivers in self-management and behavior change, and manage the practice's patient population. They also participate in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients.
- Assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret information to meet age-specific needs.
- Communicate effectively and adapt to constantly changing workloads.
- Assist with procedures, including activities of daily living, measuring intake and output (I & O), cleaning areas, and stocking supplies and equipment.
- Understand and apply knowledge of sterile procedures.
- Work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in patients and coworkers through timeliness and reliability, including working weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- EMT certification by the State of Tennessee.
- BLS certification prior to starting in the unit/department and maintained thereafter.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing workloads.
- Willingness to learn and grow in the role.
Qualifications
- Education: GED or equivalent (required).
- Experience: Medical background (preferred).
This is a temporary position at Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
