About the Role

BDO’s Intern Turnaround & Restructuring Service (TRS) practice offers energetic self-starters the opportunity to utilize their education and technical skills to serve a dynamic client base. As a TRS Intern, you will be part of a team focused on problem-solving and fact-finding, working collaboratively with experienced colleagues who provide direction, coaching, and learning opportunities. This role provides hands-on experience, critical relationship-building, and meaningful on-the-job training to maximize your career success.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and data analysis.
  • Work on client projects with senior leadership and play a key role in engagement teams.
  • Create deliverables for client engagements with oversight from experienced professionals, including financial analyses, presentations, and reports.
  • Participate in business development efforts, including building pitchbooks and financial analyses for potential engagements.
  • Conduct financial research on distressed companies for discussions with legal advisors and lenders as part of business development.
  • Engage in onsite, virtual, and self-study trainings on financial modeling, Excel best practices, and restructuring & turnaround case studies.
  • Learn about potential career pathways and designations as a restructuring and turnaround professional, including the Certified Turnaround Analyst (CTA) and Certified Insolvency & Restructuring Advisor (CIRA) programs (full-time associates post-graduation will be sponsored by BDO for these designations).
  • Participate in professional networking events at BDO and through associations such as the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; focus in Accounting, Finance, or Economics preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements.
  • Solid analytical thinking and strong writing skills.
  • Experience building and/or modifying financial models.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software programs (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Power BI).
  • Familiarity with financial analytic platforms (e.g., Capital IQ, Bloomberg, FactSet).

Skills

  • Microsoft Excel (or similar spreadsheet software), including building charts and graphs for report preparation.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint (for report preparation) and Microsoft Word (or similar word processing software).

Pay

  • California: $40.00/hr - $45.00/hr
  • Colorado: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr
  • Illinois: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Maryland: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr
  • Massachusetts: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Minnesota: $32.00/hr - $36.00/hr
  • New Jersey: $38.00/hr - $42.00/hr
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Washington: $35.00/hr - $40.00/hr
  • Washington DC: $34.00/hr - $38.00/hr
