About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer with strong expertise in network automation and Layer 2/Layer 3 switching for on-site support in Round Rock, TX. This is a 5-month W2 contract position. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing network infrastructure while driving automation initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, with a focus on Layer 2/Layer 3 switching technologies
- Develop and implement network automation solutions to streamline provisioning, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Manage and optimize network performance, availability, and security across data center and campus environments
- Automate routine network operations using scripting and orchestration tools
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network integration and deployment efforts
- Troubleshoot complex network issues and perform root cause analysis
- Maintain up-to-date network documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures
- Participate in change management, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Define network business requirements and implement effective global network strategies
- Design secure network solutions that maximize the sharing of applications, information, and resources across the company
- Coordinate with multiple vendors/departments to procure network-related hardware, software, and services
- Investigate and resolve problems, inefficiencies, and performance issues
- Create and share roadmaps and technical support to determine network business needs throughout the company
- Research emerging network technologies and make recommendations based on future business needs
- Schedule and coordinate installation and maintenance of standard software/hardware on the network and ensure compatibility of all communications and computer hardware/software
- Provide ongoing information to leadership, customers, and peers regarding health of the environment, enhancements, innovations, and secure network solutions
- Design and manage global network infrastructure
- Test, configure, and deploy operating system/software including Service Packs, upgrades, hot fixes, etc.
- Integrate multiple messaging platforms with wireless technologies
- Analyze and improve efficient messaging delivery strategies
- Support, modify, and update hardware and messaging software systems
- Perform research, operation studies, design reviews, and technical briefings with clients
- Provide advice, recommendations, and technical support to customers
- Prepare documentation to assist in the maintenance of the groupware system
- Conduct analysis, prepare reports, and work on project implementation
- Perform complex issue analysis and may perform lead role on smaller or less complex projects
- Establish project plans, budgets, schedules, and documentation of work
- Conduct periodic vulnerability and security risk assessment of network assets
- Ensure network availability to all users
- Control, test, and analyze the status and performance of all components of network facilities
- Design total systems solutions for smaller organizations or segments of large organizations
- Coordinate the installation of servers and storage equipment within the IT Data Center
- Manage capacity planning of the environment
- Interface with global providers to develop, implement, and troubleshoot unified communications solutions
- Plan and implement complex global unified communications infrastructures
- Collaborate with other engineering and architecture groups, share information, and seek customer input
- Contribute to the development of innovative and cost-effective solutions
- Provide direction in areas such as research studies, tradeoff analysis, operation studies, design reviews, and technical briefings
- Make decisions on operating procedures, analytical approaches, and workflow
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of network engineering experience
Skills
- Strong expertise in Layer 2/Layer 3 switching (VLANs, VRRP, MC-LAG, STP, VTP, PortChannel, and routing protocols such as OSPF/BGP)
- Network design and troubleshooting in enterprise environments
- Hands-on experience with network automation tools (Python, Ansible, or similar scripting/automation frameworks)
- Familiarity with REST APIs and network programmability concepts
- Experience with major networking platforms (Dell, Cisco, Arista, Juniper)
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and network security fundamentals
