Advanced Rigger (Spring Outage)
The Nuclear Company is the fastest-growing AI-enabled startup in nuclear energy, bringing together experienced nuclear professionals, technologists, engineers, and builders to deliver the next generation of nuclear power through a design-once, build-many approach. TNC Services, the services division, supports America's existing nuclear fleet with specialized maintenance, outage execution, technical expertise, and workforce solutions, including the 25-year legacy of Powerhouse Resources. This posting covers multiple locations — Brunswick Nuclear Station (North Carolina) and St. Lucie Nuclear Plant (Florida) — for spring outage work approximately March–April 2027.
About the role
TNC Services is seeking experienced Advanced Riggers holding an active NCCCO Level II Rigger certification to support maintenance, repair, and outage activities at commercial nuclear power plants and other industrial facilities. The position involves complex rigging and lifting operations for turbine generators, pumps, motors, valves, heat exchangers, and other heavy mechanical equipment, with extensive experience required in critical lifts, load calculations, rigging configurations, and nuclear lifting and handling requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced rigging activities associated with turbine generators, pumps, motors, valves, heat exchangers, and other heavy industrial equipment.
- Select, inspect, and properly utilize wire rope slings, synthetic slings, chain slings, shackles, spreader beams, lifting beams, chain falls, hoists, and specialty lifting devices.
- Calculate load weights, centers of gravity, sling angles, sling tensions, and rigging capacities.
- Read and interpret engineered lift plans, rigging drawings, equipment specifications, and applicable load charts.
- Participate in the planning and execution of complex and critical lifts in coordination with Lift Directors, crane operators, and site supervision.
- Perform equipment removal, installation, rotation, and positioning in restricted or congested work areas.
- Inspect rigging equipment before use and identify damaged, defective, or unsuitable equipment.
- Coordinate lifting activities with crane operators, signalpersons, mechanical crews, and other personnel involved in the lift.
- Maintain proper load control using tag lines, chain falls, hoists, and other approved rigging methods.
- Follow approved work packages, plant procedures, lifting and handling requirements, and nuclear work control practices.
- Participate in pre-job briefs, job hazard analyses, lift plan reviews, and human performance activities.
- Maintain compliance with Foreign Material Exclusion (FME), industrial safety, and nuclear quality requirements.
- Assist mechanical crews with equipment disassembly, installation, and maintenance activities when required.
- Recognize potential lifting hazards and exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist.
- Support scheduled outages, emergent maintenance, and other field service activities as assigned.
Requirements
- Current NCCCO Certified Rigger Level II certification.
- Minimum five years of industrial rigging experience, preferably within commercial nuclear power generation.
- Demonstrated experience performing complex rigging operations involving heavy, oversized, or irregularly shaped equipment.
- Ability to calculate load weights, centers of gravity, sling tensions, and rigging capacities.
- Experience working with overhead cranes, mobile cranes, gantry systems, chain falls, and specialty lifting equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret lift plans, rigging drawings, equipment specifications, and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations, ASME B30 standards, and industrial lifting practices.
- Understanding of nuclear safety culture, human performance tools, and procedural compliance.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with supervision and other craft personnel.
- Ability to meet commercial nuclear power plant access authorization and fitness-for-duty requirements.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work extended hours during scheduled and emergent outages.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of commercial nuclear power plant rigging experience.
- Experience supporting major turbine generator disassembly and reassembly.
- Experience rigging reactor coolant pumps, main feedwater pumps, large motors, heat exchangers, and other balance-of-plant equipment.
- NCCCO Signalperson certification.
- Previous experience serving as a Lead Rigger or supporting Lift Directors during critical lift activities.
- Experience with engineered lifting devices, hydraulic gantry systems, machinery skates, and heavy equipment positioning.
- Previous experience supporting both BWR and PWR nuclear facilities.
- Mechanical maintenance or millwright experience.

This position requires working in commercial nuclear power plants and other industrial facilities, including turbine buildings, containment structures, mechanical equipment rooms, and other plant locations. Candidates must be capable of working at elevated heights, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working in confined or restricted spaces, and performing physically demanding activities. The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods, and working in varying environmental conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment. Extended shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required during outage periods. Travel to nuclear power plants and other customer facilities throughout the United States is required.
Pay
$55.00 per hour; per diem available.
Schedule
Spring outage approximate timeframe March 2027 – April 2027; extended shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required during outage periods.
