Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider for the Emergency Department. This role involves a rotating shift schedule, including nights and weekends, as part of a team comprising 44 attending physicians, 36 residents, 4 fellows, and 10 APPs. Per diem shift expectation is 2 shifts per month. Previous Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider experience is required.

About the Role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who functions as a member of the healthcare team to provide high-quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care. The APP promotes collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost-effective and quality patient care, adhering to Rush University Medical Center's policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform History and Physical examinations
  • Provide patient care orders
  • Prescribe controlled substances (Schedule II, III, IV, or V; DEA and IL controlled substance license required)
  • Administer local and regional blocks
  • Perform closed reduction of fracture or dislocation
  • Apply fracture/dislocation immobilization
  • Conduct injection/aspiration of bursa or joint
  • Perform laceration repair
  • Execute trephination
  • Perform incision and drainage
  • Use slip lamp/tonometry
  • Perform dental procedures

Requirements

APRN Applicant Requirements:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure
  • Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally approved certifying organization
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in nursing
  • APRN's education and specialty board certification must correlate with the APP's job role, setting, responsibility, and patient population
  • BLS and ACLS certification

PA Applicant Requirements:

  • Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure
  • Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program; Master's degree preferred
  • BLS and ACLS certification

Skills

  • Demonstrated competency in all areas of APRN or PA practice, including medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physicians, departments, and other members of the healthcare team

Pay

This per diem position is compensated at a fixed hourly rate of $80.00 per hour and is not eligible for incentive pay or full-time employee benefits.
