About the role

The Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant will function within the scope of practice as defined by the state nurses practice act, delineation of privileges set forth by the practice setting and the American Nurses’ Association Code of Ethics. They will utilize the scientific process and national standards of care as a framework for managing patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the scientific process and national standards of care as a framework for managing patient care.
  • Practice autonomously and/or in consultation with a collaborating/supervising physician and other health care professionals to assess, diagnose, treat and manage patients’ health problems/needs.
  • Perform a patient history and physical examination to determine a working differential diagnosis and develop an individualized plan of care.
  • Order, perform, supervise, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, and prescribe pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies.
  • Provide therapeutic measures as appropriate and provide teaching, education, and counseling to individuals, families, and groups.
  • Informally consult with a collaborating/supervising physician on uncommon or unstable conditions, formulating diagnoses and participating in dual management and treatment.
  • Serve as health care researchers, professional educators, interdisciplinary consultants, and patient advocates.
  • Prescribe medications where clinically indicated, ensuring compliance with current APP prescribing guidelines and state/federal law.
  • Document medications prescribed and refills authorized in the patient’s chart.
  • Stay current with medical trends and provide evidence-based practice medicine by completing required continuing education as mandated by certifying organizations.
  • Ensure accountability for healthcare outcomes and maintain the highest quality of care through national certification, periodic peer review, and clinical outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
  • Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification are required.
  • Current NJ Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) or Physician Assistant License.

Qualifications

The Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant must have the ability to work independently and in collaboration with a supervising physician and other healthcare professionals. They should possess strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
