About the role

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking an Inpatient APP Manager for Neurosurgery and Neuro ICU to provide leadership and managerial oversight to neuroscience APN staff employees.

Responsibilities

  • Captures and delegates clinical staff coverage to ensure 24/7 inpatient service coverage of neurosurgical service to assigned hospitals and neurosurgical outpatient clinics.
  • Manages APN staff supplies and resources, ensuring ability for staff to perform required duties.
  • Coordinates schedules of mid-level providers to ensure adequate 24/7 coverage.
  • Handles all administrative issues including payroll, moonlighting/Per diem shift payments, staff CME tracking, APN license and DEA renewal, staff medical & payer credentialing, OPPE/FPPE staff compliance, receive and respond to all Care Links received for Neurosurgery, and regular attendance at local, regional, and network meetings pertaining to clinical care and service line operations.
  • Provides managerial oversight to all APN neuroscience staff including staff onboarding and training of core duties, clinical competency assessment and documentation of skills in compliance with medical staff privileging, staff education and guidance for skill development/improvement, conducting disciplinary action and as required by HR policy and create action plans for improvement, conduct 90 day, 6 month, and annual reviews of staff, participate in APN and Physician 360 reviews, and mentor/precept medical students, APN interns, and APN residents.
  • Develops clinical protocols and policies to ensure best practice adherence to clinical care and maintains staff training and compliance manual. Ensures EMR documentation and compliance with staff.
  • Identifies teaching, research, and administrative opportunities for team members and self to further advance skills and abilities.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts monthly APN staff meetings.
  • Enforces compliance with hospital regulations regarding medication reconciliation, venous thromboembolism prophylaxis, present on admission diagnosis, and any future quality assurance programs, yet to be developed.
  • Manages the relationship with, and satisfaction of, voluntary and employed physicians with services provided to assure optimal relationships with admitting physicians. Communicates issues to departmental leadership as needed.
  • Functions as a resource to health care personnel and participates in their educational programs.
  • Assists supervising physician with office hours and functions as an advocate for patients by managing prescription prior authorization, serving as a clinical expert to obtain surgical prior authorization requiring validation of medical necessity, and resolve issues associated with patient messages that require clinical support.
  • Will be required to perform shift work in the hospital or outpatient setting. Team schedules and shift assignments will be created in 8-week blocks to ensure appropriate coverage of service and clinic support.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of certified physician assistant program
  • OR surgical assist experience
  • Inpatient Hospital consultation experience
  • Neurosurgery or General Surgery experience of 5-7 years required
  • Management/Team Lead Experience of >2 years
  • Physician Assistant License
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification

Compensation

Minimum rate of $148,262.40 Annually
