About the role

Absorbs responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members.

The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Professional governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Requests for service are by consultation and patients will be rounded on in accordance with Medical Staff rules and regulations.
  • Receives consultations as assigned.
  • Assesses normal and abnormal findings from the history, physical examination, laboratory reports and other diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborates with the patient and members of the health care team to provide for ongoing health care and/or referral of the patient.
  • Prescribes prescription only drugs following written protocol as allowed by Kansas Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with K.A.R.60-11-104a.
  • Abides by Medical Staff guidelines for patient care, appointment, reappointment, and licensure requirements.
  • Performs all functions defined by basic nursing practice.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Compiles and records data, completes progress notes in a timely fashion as required by Medical Staff policy.
  • Develops individualized teaching plans and determines education deficits.
  • Provides discharge instructions and referral if necessary upon discharge.
  • Serves as a reference for nursing and medical staff.
  • Supports nursing staff by providing continuing education when possible.
  • Contributes to a high level of customer satisfaction.

    Requirements

    • Must be a graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program.
    • Maintains Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy.
    • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other.
    • Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues.
    • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning.
    • Manages situation in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution.
    • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions.
    • Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deals with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Writes speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
    • Effectively presents information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
    • Performs mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration.
    • Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Maintains Registered Nurse licensure.
    • Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy.
    • Completes required certifications and licenses.
    • Adheres to Medical Staff guidelines for patient care, appointment, reappointment, and licensure requirements.
    • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

      Qualifications
