Advanced Practice Provider - Cardiac Intensive Care

Position Overview

Seattle Children’s Heart Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP)—either a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP‑AC) or Physician Assistant (PA‑C)—to join the nationally recognized Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). The APP will provide frontline, high‑acuity medical management for a cohort of pediatric cardiac critical care patients in the only dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit in the Pacific Northwest.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Provide comprehensive medical management and clinical decision‑making for critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in a high‑technology setting.
• Collaborate closely with cardiac intensivists, pediatric cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, fellows, specialized CICU nurses, ECMO specialists, respiratory therapists, and clinical pharmacists.
• Manage complex patients across the spectrum of congenital and acquired heart disease, including post‑operative cardiac surgery care, single ventricle palliation, heart failure, and heart transplantation.
• Manage patients supported by advanced life‑support technologies such as ECMO and a range of ventricular assist devices (Berlin Heart, Impella, HeartMate, total artificial heart).
• Perform bedside invasive procedures and actively participate in critical care resuscitations and stabilization.
• Provide cross‑coverage and flexible redeployment within the Heart Center, including potential support for the Cardiac Specialty Care Unit (CSCU) or adjacent care areas.
• Communicate complex clinical updates, care trajectories, and treatment goals clearly with families, working alongside child life specialists and supportive care teams.

Work Schedule & Environmental Requirements

• Rotating shifts covering days, nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7/365 coverage.
• Very high‑acuity, fast‑paced environment on a 24‑bed single‑room floor designed for continuous clinical monitoring and family‑centered care.

Required Education and Experience

• Master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in acute care **or** graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program.
• At least one year of work experience in a pediatric or family‑focused clinical area.

Required Credentials

• For Nurse Practitioners: active, unencumbered RN and advanced RN practitioner licensure in Washington; current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner.
• For Physician Assistants: active, unencumbered PA licensure in Washington; initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• All providers: active Drug Enforcement Authority registration, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (and where required, American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training with continuous maintenance).
• Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children’s Hospital must be secured prior to hire and maintained in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience in an advanced practice provider role.
• Two years of experience in pediatric health care.

Compensation

Salary range: $142,120 – $209,019 per year (based on full‑time employment, 2,080 hours/year). The position is eligible for an off‑shift premium of up to 12%, adding an additional $17,054 – $25,082 per year. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates. Compensation may vary for positions located outside Seattle.
