About the role
Join University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for our Inpatient Lung/Abdominal Transplant Team. Sign on Bonus and Relocation Package Available.
Responsibilities
- Taking patient history, conducting examinations, diagnosing illness
- Ordering and interpreting labs and imaging
- Exercising autonomy in medical decision-making, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services when necessary
- Effectively collaborating and communicating among interdisciplinary teams
- Being highly proficient and organized with patient examinations and assessments, diagnostic interpretations, clinical interventions, and health care planning
- Maintaining effective problem-solving skills
- Providing direct support to patients throughout the inpatient stay for all abdominal transplant patients
- Utilizing advanced practice skills obtained through the completion of a formal provider program, including advanced levels of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care
- Performing some invasive procedures
- Planning, organizing, and directing patient care efforts in collaboration with medical and surgical physicians and other team members
Requirements
- Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science in Nursing, Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration, Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC or AANP, Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers, At least 1 year of inpatient nursing experience preferred but not required, Critical Care experience preferred
- Physician Assistant: Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program, Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure/registration, At least 1 year of inpatient experience preferred, Critical Care experience/rotations preferred
