Advanced Practice Provider (APP) / (PA/NP), Department of Surgery, Division of GITES Burn Unit - Instructor

About the role

The Division of GI, Trauma, and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a part-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).

Responsibilities

• Obtaining a thorough history, performing an appropriate physical examination, and ordering appropriate testing.
• Managing post-operative complications and assisting in the hydroroom with patient pain and sedation management.
• Monitoring overall care and providing education about the risks and benefits of the surgical procedures.
• Working with all residents and providing resident orientation.
• Seeing and evaluating patients in the hospital as well as the clinic, providing documentation, an assessment, and care plan for inpatient stay and all discharge care planning.
• Participating in research activities of the clinic and the inpatient unit, including the identification of patients appropriate for open clinical trials and facilitating their participation in clinical research.
• Collaborating with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, and hospital staff.
• Interacting professionally with referring physicians, emergency medical personnel, and primary care providers.
• Providing cross coverage clinical care on different services as needed to manage census and acuity of clinical activity.
• Collaborating with the surgical house staff.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing.
• Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse with prescriptive privileges.
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Masters degree.
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
• Two years’ experience in general surgery, trauma, or critical care setting preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing.
• Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse with prescriptive privileges.
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Masters degree.
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate clearly as an integral member of a team.

Pay

Hiring Range: $100,734 to $134,014
