Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment & Management: Perform comprehensive assessments of acute surgical patients, develop and implement treatment plans, monitor progress, and adjust care as needed in collaboration with resident and attending physicians.
  • Critical Care Procedures: Perform bedside procedures such as suturing, drain placement/removal and wound care management.
  • Care Coordination: Work closely with surgeons, critical care intensivists, surgery and medicine residents, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.
  • Patient Monitoring: Continuously evaluate patient condition, monitor vital signs, and interpret lab results, diagnostic imaging, and other data to guide treatment decisions.
  • Family Communication: Provide education and emotional support to patients' families, ensuring they are well-informed about the patient's condition, treatment options, and prognosis.
  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate electronic medical records (EMRs) of patient care, including assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Leadership & Education: Serve as a clinical leader through nursing staff education and contribute to the training of students and residents as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with best practices in emergency surgery care.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in surgery, trauma, emergency medicine, or critical care settings preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Master's Degree - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Board certification Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care certification or Board certification as Physician Assistant;
  • Active New Jersey License;
  • American Heart Association BLS and CDS/DEA.
