About the role

The role involves providing specialist clinical pharmacy support across cancer services, including Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) prescription verification, aseptic services, inpatient wards, and Day Bed Unit activity. The position is ideal for experienced pharmacists with cancer services experience.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) prescription verification in accordance with local governance arrangements and professional standards.
  • Contribute to the safe and timely delivery of cancer treatment by supporting Day Bed Unit activity, inpatient ward services, and aseptic production and treatment release processes.
  • Work closely with pharmacy, nursing, and medical colleagues to maintain continuity of patient care while ensuring safe, effective, and resilient service delivery.
  • Provide clinical advice, guidance, and support to less experienced pharmacy staff where appropriate and respond flexibly to changing service demands.

Requirements

  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Substantial post-registration pharmacy experience.
  • Significant specialist experience within cancer services.
  • Current or recent competence in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) prescription verification.
  • Excellent clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure within a busy clinical environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexible approach to working in response to service requirements.

Qualifications and/or experience

  • Essential: Registered Pharmacist with GPhC, substantial post-registration pharmacy experience, significant specialist experience within cancer services, current or recent competence in SACT prescription verification, excellent clinical judgement and decision-making skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively under pressure, ability to work collaboratively, flexible approach to working.
  • Desirable: Experience supporting aseptic production services, experience working within Day Bed Unit and inpatient oncology services, previous experience supervising or supporting junior pharmacy staff, knowledge of current governance, safety, and quality standards relating to cancer pharmacy services.

Pay

This is a pro rata position based on part-time hours (7.5 per week).

Schedule

This is a fixed-term post for 3 months, based at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWOSCC).
