Advanced Nurse Clinician Nephrology Clinic
Work schedule: Full-time, Day Shift, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
About the role
The Advanced Nurse Clinician is a professional registered nurse who is an expert in the care of a defined patient population within a specialty clinic or subspecialty area. The clinician assumes a leadership role and supervisory responsibilities in the development, organization, and implementation of care and services for this patient population. The role integrates direct patient care, education, consultation, and research/quality improvement to support high-quality, patient- and family-centered care across Specialty Care Services.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision in the development, organization, and implementation of care for a defined patient population
- Deliver direct patient care within a specialty clinic or subspecialty area
- Engage in education, consultation, and research/quality improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama (Single State or NLC Multi State)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of staff-level nursing experience with specialization in the field

About the clinic
The Nephrology Clinic at Main Campus Lowder Building includes six Board Certified Pediatric Nephrologists, one Board Certified Pediatric Hepatologist, and nine Board Certified Infectious Disease Physicians. Academic Fellows, Residents, and Certified Nurse Practitioners also provide care under the supervision of attending physicians.
Specialty services provided include renal and liver transplant, nephrotic syndrome, hematuria, ESRD, and Post-COVID care. The clinic offers multidisciplinary services for complex patients with chronic conditions, including:
- Surgical and medical care
- Pharmacy services
- Nutrition counseling
- Financial coordination
- Psycho-social support (social workers, psychologists, family counselors, school teachers, and child life specialists)
Basic referral information is required for new patient consults, and additional details may be requested prior to appointments, including symptoms, prior history, and test/procedure results.
