About the Role

This position acts as a leader in the provision of patient care utilizing the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The role involves effectively delegating, directing, and assisting licensed and ancillary team members while assuming accountability for quality patient outcomes. The incumbent exhibits sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity in all interactions and maintains involvement in activities aimed at achieving unit and department strategic goals. The role demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for practice and supports the organization’s philosophy of nursing.

Responsibilities

• Effectively uses the nursing process in the delivery of patient care.
• Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies appropriate for the diverse needs of the patient, family, and other groups or disciplines.
• Communicates, delegates, and manages nursing team resources (human and fiscal) properly and serves as a leader and partner on the interdisciplinary team.
• Uses data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change in order to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and improvement in the profession of nursing.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to be self-directed and demonstrate good judgment.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Work Experience Required: None.
• Preferred: Experience directly supervising or managing others.
• Preferred Certification: Certification in a clinical specialty area.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Physical Work: Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
• The incumbent works in a patient care area, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that could contain diseases, posing an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
• There may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
