About the role

Join the Naval Nuclear Laboratory and contribute to advancing the state-of-the-art of thermal hydraulic testing capabilities in the Naval Nuclear Program. This position involves hands-on laboratory work solving real-life complex engineering problems, including implementing test instrumentation and apparatus, specifying tests, processing data, and analyzing test results.

The Thermal Hydraulic Test Engineer will collaborate with a team to develop test section designs and advanced diagnostic techniques for high-temperature and high-pressure environments. This role requires significant collaboration with other groups to ensure successful test execution and alignment with the technical and timing needs of end users.

Responsibilities

  • Implement test instrumentation and apparatus.
  • Specify, conduct, and analyze thermal hydraulic tests.
  • Process and analyze test data.
  • Develop test section designs and advanced diagnostic techniques for high-temperature and high-pressure environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful test execution and alignment with end-user requirements.

Requirements

Required combination of knowledge and skill:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field; or
  • Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the company.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent field.
  • Experience in two-phase testing.
  • Experience working in projects/teams with multiple stakeholders.

Pay

Pay Range: $86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually. Salary is based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.

All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory maintains a drug-free workplace and workforce; candidates must pass a drug test in compliance with company policy and 10 CFR 707.
