Serco is hiring an Advanced Marine Welder to join a dynamic team supporting U.S. Navy Ships with equipment and C5ISR system installations in Norfolk, Virginia. This role involves fabricating and assembling electromechanical and electronic assemblies while ensuring safe work practices on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble pieces of metal or repair damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat to melt and shape metal.
  • Review blueprints to guide fabrication processes.
  • Cut metal into appropriate shapes.
  • Smooth metal to remove creases and imperfections.
  • Climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders and work in kneeling positions for cable runs under false decking.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 pounds for the majority of the shift while standing, crouching, or walking.
  • Train personnel on machinery tools and test equipment as needed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols critical to the role.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of shipboard welding experience.
  • Ability to gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), pass a background investigation, and drug screening.
  • Successful qualification in the following Serco Welding Procedures within 30 days of employment:
    • Serco-001 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position)
    • Serco-002 (SMAW, HY100 – 4 position)
    • Serco-003 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position)
    • Serco-007 (SMAW, C/S to S/S – 4 position)
    • Serco-012 (SMAW, S/S to S/S – 4 position)
  • Possess your own tools of the trade and pass a pre-certification company weld test.
  • Get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout the work shift.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA standard concepts, practices, and procedures in electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Must work onsite in Chesapeake, VA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • OSHA 10 certification.

Pay

Salary range is provided as a guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by factors including scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education, training, key skills, and geographic market considerations. Eligible positions may include annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
