About the role

Provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students and internal partners of the Alamo Colleges. Reports to the Interpreter Services Manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide ASL interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students and internal partners.
• Travel to various campuses or locations as needed for deaf student access.
• Work outside standard M‑F 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. hours based on student schedules.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and training.
• Two years of experience performing ASL interpretation as a certified interpreter or equivalent combination.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
• Preferred: Four years of experience performing ASL interpretation as a certified interpreter or equivalent combination.
• Must possess and maintain Texas HHS BEI Advanced Certificate or comparable RID certification; comparable out‑of‑state certification pending BEI is acceptable if BEI certification is completed within six months of hire.
• Individuals pursuing BEI certification may apply but must complete it within six months of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and be insurable through the organization’s insurers.

Hourly position.

Schedule

19 hours per week. Work hours may vary outside of M‑F 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. based on deaf student schedules.
