Job Summary and Description
Provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students and internal partners of the Alamo Colleges. Reports to the Interpreter Services Manager.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or a combination of relevant experience, education, and training that equates to the required degree.
- Three years of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
- Preferred: Five years of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess and maintain Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Master Certificate or comparable Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification.
- Comparable certification from other states is acceptable pending BEI certification, which must be completed within six months of hire.
- Individuals pursuing BEI certification may apply and must complete BEI certification within six months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the organization’s insurers.
- Motor Vehicle Report required in addition to background check and drug screen.
Schedule
- Part‑time, temporary position.
- Hours per week: 19.
- Typical work hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; outside these hours varies depending on student schedules.

Location
Interpreter Services, 2222 N. Alamo St., San Antonio, Texas 78215, United States. Interpreters will need to travel to whichever campus/location is needed for deaf student access.
