The Department of Media and Information (MI) at Michigan State University invites applications for an Advanced Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position. MI is known for its interdisciplinary approach, covering areas such as human-computer interaction, human-robot interaction, rural computing, game studies and design, and the intersections of technology and policy, health, and society.

About the Role

Candidates are expected to contribute to or expand upon these areas, particularly through computational and quantitative methods. A strong interest in research addressing disparities across various dimensions, including race, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+ identities, socioeconomic status, disability, physical and mental well-being, health disparities, digital inequity, and environmental aspects, is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to or expand research areas within MI, focusing on computational and quantitative approaches.
  • Research and address disparities across various dimensions, including race, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+ identities, socioeconomic status, disability, physical and mental well-being, health disparities, digital inequity, and environmental aspects.
  • Teach courses in the department, emphasizing both theoretical and practical aspects of the field.
  • Mentor and advise students and colleagues, fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
  • Engage in service activities that enhance the department's reputation and contribute to the broader academic community.
  • Advocate for and implement strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and service.

Requirements

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate or terminal degree in their field. Preference will be given to those with prior tenure at a research-intensive institution or equivalent research experience. The position requires a demonstrated ability to conduct high-impact research, excellent teaching skills, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong research record, a proven track record of excellence in teaching, and a commitment to mentoring and advising students and colleagues. They should also have a demonstrated ability to serve the university and their profession effectively.
