About the role

RWJBH is seeking a Per Diem variable days/night/weekends/holidays Advanced Practice Provider in the Trauma Surgery service line department at the New Brunswick campus.

Responsibilities

  • The focus of this role is inpatient pre-op and post-op management
  • Performing consults and facilitating patient throughput with proper discharge planning is essential
  • Providing wound care and other bedside procedures will also be expected
  • While this is a surgical service there will be no operating room responsibilities, but there will be trauma bay resuscitation responsibilities
  • Candidate must be able to respond in a controlled and calm manner during trauma situations
  • Administers injections, immunizations and oral medications, starts IV
  • Aids physician by recording patient progress notes, issues diagnostic orders, and transcribes orders
  • Aids with various counseling and education functions
  • Billing for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board Regulations
  • Demonstrates satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate care for patients
  • Develops plan of care for patients in coordination with multidisciplinary team and completes appropriate reports to physicians and family
  • Documents and maintains patient records of services provided according to facility and nursing standards
  • Establishes a collaborative relationship with other medical providers
  • Examines patients to determine presence of illness, utilizes physical findings, laboratory results, medical history, ascertains nature and extent of illness and prescribes treatments as indicated
  • Interviews, instructs and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions
  • Issues prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State Regulations
  • Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Reviews all lab data and documents
  • Participates in the development of protocols
  • Performs and obtains a completed medical history and physical data on patients with appropriate documentation and findings
  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits
  • Responsible for coordinating nursing and training programs on compliant for policies such as HIPAA, OSHA, Code of Conduct
  • Responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice
  • Sutures wounds, incise and drains wounds, repairs lacerations
  • Works in collaboration with a physician to diagnose conditions as necessary

Requirements

  • Current NJ APN/PA license required
  • NCCPA certification required
  • CDS required
  • DEA required
  • BSN required
  • BLS required
  • ACLS required
  • Candidate should possess effective time management and patient care skills,
  • Must be able to adapt and adjust to a large volume acute patient population,
  • Must be able to assess and present critical patient concerns in a clear and concise manner,
  • Must be able to work collegially with the trauma surgical resident team,
  • 2-4 years of surgery experience required,
  • Must be able to step in and start working efficiently immediately with no training
