Advance Paramedic

About the Role

The Advanced Paramedic provides direct patient care within the scope of the Paramedic/EMT Practice Act and under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. As an ER Advanced Paramedic, you perform a variety of functions for patients requiring urgent or emergency attention.

Responsibilities

• Assist with obtaining and documenting vital signs and placement of oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
• Assist with technical functions such as obtaining 12-lead EKGs, discontinuation of peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks, and maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Assist with patient care and treatments, including positioning patients, application of sterile dressings, immobilization of extremities, cast and splint applications.
• Complete basic psychomotor skills and activities related to care.
• Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes.
• Report and document vital signs, test results, procedures, and pertinent data concisely and in a timely manner.
• Clean and stock carts, rooms, and change linen as required.
• Provide written instructions and/or educational materials to patients and family members.

Requirements

• Current licensure in the State as a Paramedic (EMT-P required).
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a field Paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a hospital.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Instructor must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.
