Advance Manufacturing Trades Instructor

About the Role

This position provides Career and Technical Education to prisoners in Advanced Manufacturing. The program equips students with skills for gainful employment after incarceration. The Advanced Manufacturing Instructor guides students through curriculum resources designed for National Institute for Metal Working (NIMS) and FANUC robotics certification, develops supplemental teaching materials, coordinates student assessments and progress activities, and administers credential testing. The instructor stays current with innovations in functional technologies to prepare students for workforce entry.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction in Advanced Manufacturing to incarcerated students.
• Guide students through curriculum for NIMS and FANUC robotics certification.
• Develop supplemental teaching materials to promote learning.
• Coordinate all student assessments, progress tracking, and credential testing.
• Maintain current knowledge of innovations in functional technologies to prepare students for the workforce.

Requirements

• Possession of an associate's degree in the specific trade or occupation to be taught.
• No specific type or amount of experience is required.

Alternate Qualifications

• Possession of an appropriate bachelor's degree, master's degree, or vocational teacher certification may substitute for the education and experience requirements.
• High school diploma (or equivalent) plus four years of recent experience in the specific trade or occupation, including six months of experience training others, may substitute for the education and experience requirements.

Additional Information

• Some positions may require state certifications for the occupation.
• Individuals appointed to subclass-coded positions must possess the required specialized experience, training, or license.
• The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals convicted of a felony or with pending felony charges (Public Act 140 of 1996).
• Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible until satisfactory completion of any sentence, including parole or probation (Public Act 191 of 2017).
• Employment requires adherence to high ethical standards, including reporting potential conflicts of interest.

Training

New hires and returning employees (after more than two years away) complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), consisting of 40 or 80 hours of in-person training based on offender contact and job classification, plus additional online training. Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
