Adult Probation Officer

About the role

This position is responsible for the supervision of adult offenders to ensure they comply with conditions of probation and parole, to take appropriate action when conditions are violated, and to provide assistance to clients.

Responsibilities

• Supervises adult offenders assigned to probation or parole;
• Makes home visits to assess and evaluate an individual’s situation and needs;
• Ensures compliance with terms of parole/probation;
• Takes appropriate action for violations;
• Affords assistance to clients in finding employment, housing and other services;
• Refers clients to social, medical and other services;
• Provides counsel, advice, guidance and direction;
• Maintains related documentation.

Requirements

• Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License;
• License to carry a firearm;
• Certification as a CRN evaluator and JNET.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
• Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills

• Ability to operate a vehicle, a personal computer, general office equipment, law enforcement equipment, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions;
• Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, regulations;
• Ability to conduct research and maintain an awareness of new issues, methods, equipment, trends and advances in the profession;
• Ability to read updates and other professional literature;
• Ability to maintain professional affiliations;
• Ability to participate in continuing education activities;
• Ability to attend meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
