SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under the direction of the site administrator, structures, implements, and manages appropriate educational activities for language arts, reading, math, social studies, science, art, music, physical education or other subject area as outlined in district curriculum guides and state content standards for pupils in grades seven through twelve, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
- Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited university.
- Credential or enrollment in an intern program authorizing teaching of a specific content area in the state of California.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Single Subject teaching credential.
- Previous teaching or student teaching experience.
- Highly Qualified under No Child Left Behind legislation.
- English Learner certification.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Completion of student teaching or enrollment in an intern program.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- Experience as a teacher at this level in a public school setting.

- Utilizes proper English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and English speaking skills.

- Analyzes situations and takes appropriate action regarding routine/emergency procedural matters without immediate supervision.

- Possesses knowledge of technology to present lessons, communicate with others, and keep records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Engages and supports all students in learning by providing for a variety of learning styles, ability levels, and educational/linguistic backgrounds.
- Creates and maintains effective environments for student learning.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior through proper control and supervision and the provision of learning activities which stimulate the interest and motivation of pupils.
- Develops and implements effective classroom management procedures.
- Understands and organizes subject matter for student learning focusing upon the standards outlined in the District Curriculum and the state content standards.
- Effectively plans standards-based instruction and designs learning experiences for all students.
- Employs technology as appropriate to enhance instruction.
- Affords assessments students for learning in accordance with District and state requirements.
- Maintains accurate, thorough records of student attendance, achievement and behavioral performance.
- Develops as a professional educator.
- Communicates effectively with students and parents.
- Maintains standard of professional behavior as an example to students.
- Supports and abides by school and District policies and procedures.
- Performs extracurricular duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Stand, walk, bend over kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull.
- Move, lift, and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height.
- Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping).
- Stand, sit, and/or walk for extended periods of time.
- Demonstrates normal depth perception.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard or typewriter, operates standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
- See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without visual aids.
- Distinguish colors.
- Read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions.
- Hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone.
- Verbal communications including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels and on the telephone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work indoors in a standard office environment, computer lab and/or classroom environment.
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Exposure to childhood and other diseases in a school environment.
- Exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals.
- May be requested to work outside of normal workdays and office hours.
- May be required to work in emergency situations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Maintain District-insurable driving record.
