Adult Education- Pathway to Options Specialist

The Lansing School District Adult Education (AE) program is hiring a Pathway to Options Specialist to assist adult learners in developing a career pathway and providing soft skill instruction.

About the role

The Specialist will serve as a school counselor for adult learners, assisting in assessing educational background and work experience to determine a pathway toward personal and professional goals. They will also identify supports to overcome obstacles toward degree and/or credential attainment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records and documentation of students for evaluation purposes and monitor progress toward career and technical education goals.
• Increase recruitment and retention of adult learners.
• Work collaboratively with school Adult Education staff to support the cognitive, physical, emotional, social, and communication development needs of program participants.
• Facilitate and encourage a learning environment fostering successful social and academic experiences related to language proficiency, workforce skills, and acculturation processes.
• Identify barriers for program participants and work with community agencies or other entities to address them.
• Provide guidance and support to help participants overcome barriers and ensure success.
• Collaborate with Adult Education staff, Workforce Development Agency, Integrated Education and Training Support Centers, and employers to design educational programs tailored to participants' needs.
• Maintain professional and clear communications with all agencies involved in the program.
• Identify and provide information about specific IET courses available to program participants.
• Create a cohort of adult learners most prepared to enter the workforce.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in education, social work, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Successful employment experience with Adult Education and English Learners.
• Experience and knowledge of Integrated Education and Training and Workforce Development.
• Demonstrated ability to work with students from a variety of cultures, ages, and language/academic proficiency levels.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively with community agencies, educational institutions, employers, district administration, and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with flexibility.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain professional conduct and work ethics including attendance, punctuality, and performance.
• Demonstrated ability to actively seek opportunities for professional growth.
